Wolves at the double!
Wolves predictably completed the double yesterday when they added the Shield Competition trophy to their Second Division championship with an emphatic five-goal triumph at National Stadium.
Inspired by the crafty Nirobi Smith, Wolves ended the season with all the Second Division silverware, accomplishing the goals set out by coach Dennis Brown at the start of the season.
The demolition of St. George's came without much sweat, as Wolves raced to a 4-0 lead within the first 64 minutes. When it was all over, Julian Francis had scored twice, Smith once, Nathan Webb once and John Barry Nusum once.
Throughout the final, the east enders were nothing but honest triers as they battled valiantly but vainly to counter the relentless attacks of their more skillful opponents.
After just four minutes Smith provided the cross for Francis to fire home from close range and after some sustained pressure they added a second 20 minutes later when Francis hammered in a scorcher from 22 yards which caught goalkeeper John Durrant and his defence totally off guard.
Only some good defending by centreback Darrin Walker held Wolves at bay.
St. George's, whose threat up front was limited to just three corners by Dwayne Trott during the first 30 minutes, did have two chances to score just before the half.
After 41 minutes Hewvonne Brown in the Wolves goal was forced to tip Dwayne Trott's free kick from 20 yards over the bar while the hard-working young striker Mackie Crane headed a cross from Trott just wide of the post.
Wolves took complete command when play restarted with Smith and Nusum putting shots wide and high of goal. The inevitable third goal came after 61 minutes when Smith took a pass from Nusum and blasted it home from 15 yards.
Three minutes later St. George's were floored for good when Webb combined with Nusum to score from close in.
After Smith had a shot cleared off the goal-line by Kerwin Morena, Nusum finished off the scoring for Wolves, slamming the ball home from close range.

Extros 1 Fire Services came from behind to rout the Extros in this Commercial League Cup Knockout final at National Stadium yesterday.
The tiring Extros were fortunate to come away with just a two-goal loss as their opponents attacked relentlessly during the last 15 minutes and were unlucky not to add to their final tally.
But it was Extros who struck first when Everett Wellman put them ahead after seven minutes.
Veteran centre-back Wendell (Woodgate) Simmons levelled after 19 minutes when he scored from a free kick after goalkeeper Gladstone Robinson had been penalised for delaying the game. Robinson, however, pulled off some heroic saves to prevent the firemen from taking a comfortable lead by the half.
After the break their goals came from Ranay Boyles (65 minutes) and skipper Troy Furbert (75 minutes) -- Furbert's a torrid left-footed drive from the edge of the penalty box.
