Wright returns to winner's circle
captured overall honours at the Five Flat Miles Road Race yesterday at the west end.
Wright, moving at a five minute, 10 seconds-per-mile clip, clocked 25:52 in beating Brett Forgesson into second place by 16 seconds. Trailing in third was Kevin Tucker (26:40).
In the absence of leading runner Kavin Smith, Wright grabbed the moment to shine, dropping the bridesmaid's tag and notching his first win of the current road running season.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Fisher continued in a strong vein, easing to victory among the women in a time of 29:17.
Maria Conroy-Haydon (30:14) was second with Julia Hawley (31:39) third.
Young Jeremiah Smith went home a champion after defeating all comers in the shortened junior race. Smith was timed in 10:06 compared to 10:14 for Fraser Hunt in second and Richard Walcott (10:35) third.
Lyndsay Taylor (11:26) was the first girl followed by Danielle Smith (12:34) and Gabrielle Butler (12:56).
