SAILING SLG An ocean yacht race from Antigua to Bermuda is being planned for next year to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Royal Naval Dockyard and also to recognise the final departure of the British Navy next spring.
The "Dockyard-to-Dockyard'' race will start from Nelson's Harbour in Antigua on Wednesday, May 10 following the annual Antigua Race Week, with the fleet heading directly for Bermuda.
A West End Development Corporation statement this week noted that the boats would officially finish off St. David's with the sailors then heading to Dockyard for an official gala welcome which will include receptions, sporting activities, prize-giving and a ball.
It's hoped that the race fleet will gather a week later in St.George's Harbour to witness one of the Island's premier sailing events, the opening of the Fitted Dinghy season.
