Watlington 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 during the Coral Beach Invitational Tennis Tournament yesterday.
Not to be outdone, Peter Newman, hailing from Riverside, Connecticut cast aside a bout of nerves and erratic play to battle from a set down and outlast Nick Frost 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Devoid of energy and having lost much body fluid following the contest which was played in the mid-day heat, Frost was unable to say where the turning point was, or even if there was one. All he could muster after the gruelling contest was to advise the tournament committee not to include him in the consolation tournament.
Newman, meanwhile, will have a day to savour this victory -- and recover -- before taking on second seed Gregg Frigerio tomorrow.
