has been handed the duties of technical advisor to the club's programme.

Bascome, largely invisible on the sporting scene since stepping down as coach of Boulevard in order to tend to personal matters early in the 1992-93 season, originally attempted to transfer to Village as a player last year. His bid was denied when he failed to show at a mandatory screening.

However, recently there had been rumblings about Bascome being asked to take over in some capacity at Village prior to the 1993-94 campaign.

Initial reports had him linked to the head coaching slot currently occupied by Wendell (Joe) Trott, with the latter moving on to a newly-created director of coaching position.

Club president Rudolph Hollis neither confirmed nor denied this was the case when questioned yesterday, saying these matters were "still being discussed''.

Fortifying the point though, is the fact that Bascome featured prominently amongst the transfer applications received by the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) and the club concerned is Village. Bascome signed, but never played with Commercial Division side Somerset Extros last season.

"Right now I don't think it would be appropriate to say anything,'' added Hollis. "We're still going though the transfer period and want to wait until that process is over before we finalise these things.'' Revolutionary changes are said to be afoot at the North Shore club, involving an almost total restructuring of the organisation.

The transfer period ended yesterday with the BFA deluged with over 230 applications. And as usual several top names were among the annual parade of players seeking new addresses for the upcoming season.

Aside from Bascome, the biggest move involved former Bermuda national team captain Dennis Brown, who was lured away from the clutches of Somerset, a place he has called home for three decades, to newly-promoted Vasco.

Vasco were predictably busy in the transfer market and certainly appear to have bolstered their ranks with the influx of several experienced First Division players.

Among those joining Brown are Bermuda team-mate Voorhees Astwood, who became disenchanted with Dandy Town shortly after the World Cup campaign.

Town were further hit with the departures of Dennis Robinson and Burton Bruce, while Irving Burgess has similarly signed on at the Portuguese-run club from relegated Hamilton Parish.

Returning en masse to Boulevard, after spending a year at North Village, were the Caisey brothers, Clinton, Albert and Taur.

Clinton, the middle brother, said that while he enjoyed his brief stay there, it was time to head back to his "roots''.

"It was nice there and I learned a lot through the great coaching of Joe Trott and Wendell Baxter,'' he said. "I have nothing against Village, but my conscience was on me and I had to follow my heart back to Boulevard.

"I've always had dreams of playing at Boulevard and winning trophies with them and I know we can do it. Plus I always like to stick with my brothers.'' Already armed with a formidable unit, coach Gary Mallory's toughest task may be finding playing time for his array of talent. For along with the aforementioned trio, Shivaughn Smith, Stevie Wade and Herbie Bascome have also opted for the green pastures in the back of town.

Perennial powerhouses Somerset and PHC were largely inactive, as were Devonshire Colts, electing to stick with home-grown talent. However, there were two moves amongst them that warrant mention.

The Zebras will be minus the experience of goalkeeper Carlyle Crockwell, now a Red Devil, and Somerset have gained another set of hands between the sticks in the form of Gladwin Edness.

Already regarded as a side rapidly on the decline, Hotels did little to alter that opinion, as they were severely weakened because of the decisions by Edness and Randy Darrell (to Southampton Rangers) to leave, along with veteran Eugene (Hammer) Simmons (to Village).

Walter Musson has re-signed and would appear to have a forward spot locked up, although the previous period spent with the club saw him fail to complete the season and eventually go back to Dandy Town.

In somewhat of a surprise, Bermuda international defender Shawn Smith decided to return to Second Division Devonshire Cougars, his former club.

Having already secured the services of Neil Paynter, St. George's regained Parish utility player Sinclair Gibbons.
