Anti-Tyrrell faction to meet tonight

Neville Tyrrell for the leadership of the Bermuda Football Association when the faction pushing for a change hold another meeting at Devonshire Recreation Club.

There is no indication who, if anybody, will emerge as a candidate for Tyrrell's presidency or even if there will be anybody running against second vice president Elroy Ratteray for the two executive positions that will be voted on at the BFA's AGM in three weeks' time.

A source who did not wish to be named confided that the situation was "sticky'' at the moment with there still being a desire to put up a candidate to run for the president, but hinted that it was "touch and go at the moment''.

"It should be a very interesting meeting with the expectation that something will be decided one way or another. Some feel that there is a need to challenge Tyrrell, but there are also some who feel that it was important to put up somebody with credibility and not simply attempt to run anybody for the sake of getting rid of another,'' said the source.

According to the source, the main gripes that some of those supporters have against Tyrrell were his handling of the recent World Cup campaign combined with the manner in which the dismissal of Clyde Best was handled.

"The problem is that whatever the group pushing for change think of Tyrrell, there is no denying that he and his administration has been able to restore faith and interest of the business sector. And to do that after nobody was giving a cent to soccer after the `Miami Seven' episode was definitely a big triumph for the current administration,'' added the source.

Mark Trott has been the leading candidate while Joe Brown, former BFA administrative assistant, was also asked to consider running before pulling out last week.

It is not known whether anybody else will be persuaded into throwing their hat in the ring to contest the position.
