record for the 1500 metres.

Competing in the McGill International in Montreal on the weekend, Armstrong posted a time of three minutes, 41.97 seconds, more than a second better than the previous record of 3:43.00 he set earlier this summer.

Armstrong, now living and working in Washington DC, originally broke Mike Watson's longstanding mark this past spring. He will represent the Island in the CAC Games next month in Venezuela plus the Commonwealth Games in September. His latest time is equivalent to just inside a four-minute mile. No Bermudian has ever run the mile in under four minutes.

Meanwhile, the world 1500m record was broken yesterday, when Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj clocked an unofficial time of 3:26 at the Golden Gala meet. El Guerrouj, the world champion at the distance, slashed more than a second off the old mark of 3:27.37, established by middle-distance great Nourredine Morceli in 1995.
