Astwood steals the show
Two clinical strikes meant the spoils were shared between two of the Island's top Premier Division sides at Somerset last night.
Colts took the lead on the half-time whistle thanks to a crisp drive from Lloyd Holder, but minutes after the break the Zebras ensured they would not go away empty-handed when Chris Furbert fired home.
Colts had much the better of a largely uninspiring first period, but they were on the backfoot for a lot of the second half as PHC put them under the cosh.
Zebras coach, Sammy Swan said: "I guess I could be satisfied with the draw.
It took us a little while to get going but it worked out in the end. We established a bit of control over the game and we had a few chances.
"I thought we could have done better with them but I'm satisfied with a draw against a good team like Colts.'' PHC striker Stephen Astwood was the star of the show and it will be a great shame, though not for the Zebras, if he does not fulfil his dreams of a professional contract in England.
"He's been away for a little while so he's trying to get himself going again,'' Swan said, playing down the influence of his star man.
"He's just getting in the flow of where the team is right now and feeling his way.'' If Swan is right and the big number nine is just finding his feet after his time at Preston North End, then defenders he is yet to face must be quaking in their boots.
But PHC are not just about Astwood. Duval Wilson, Otis Steede and Chris Furbert all turned in second-half performances of note.
And for Colts, Marvin Belboda -- who is surely made of granite -- shone alongside team-mates Holder and keeper Kevin Bean.
Holder signalled his intent as early as the 10th minute heading onto the top of the bar from about eight yards out.
PHC's Damon Francis was then lucky to get away with just a stern talking to from referee Anthony Mouchette after he laid out big Belboda, having already been booked for a series of other indiscretions.
Colts' coach Ray Jones shouted for his men to feed the dangerous Belboda down the left, but the deadlock was broken when he switched to the right and PHC's attentions drifted with him.
Aljame Zuill collected the ball in the area vacated by Belboda and played an inch perfect cross into the feet of Holder who made no mistake giving PHC keeper Carlyle Crockwell no chance.
Three minutes into the second-half Steede had to clear from under his own bar after Colts' Jermaine Belboda had steered the ball goalwards.
But the men in orange had to defend moments later when Bean inadvertently picked up a back pass.
Mouchette awarded a free kick six yards out but instead of taking account of the acute angle and supplying a team-mate Duval Wilson opted to try and deflect the ball in off a defender. It was cleared and the chance was lost.
However, Colts' relief was only shortlived.
An excellent left wing cross found Furbert in space and his first time shot fair whistled past Bean.
The equaliser stirred Colts and they went close when Holder headed onto the roof of the net after good play from Vic Ball and Keenan Burchall.
Astwood allowed his full talent to come to the fore in the 64th minute.
Collecting the ball on the left he drifted this way and that, inviting challenges from defenders. It looked at one point like he could have fallen and claimed a penalty, but he kept his feet and though forced across goal found Furbert who fired high and wide.
It was Astwood who was asking all the questions again in the 77th minute -- running into the box he lost the ball between two defenders, but his determination won it back and he was able to get a shot off which forced a corner.
Colts substitute Quincy Aberdeen picked up where Astwood left off, going on a mazy run towards the PHC box. He managed to round the keeper but in doing so was forced wide and when he did get the ball back in Zuill fired wide.
PHC had one last chance to grab a come from behind win three minutes from time. A fine ball from Wilson released Astwood on the right and his shot was too hotfor Bean to handle. The ball fell from his grasp and invited the follow-up from Michael Lambe but the keeper did well to recover at the second attempt, diving at the feet of his opponent and ensuring the scores remained locked.
