Because of another function at the school, the singles and doubles finals of the Bermuda Table Tennis Association's National Closed Championships have been
Masters Open.
From matches on Saturday at Elliott, Alan Webb and Kacy King advanced to the doubles final against fourth seeds Monique Ternier and Nick Frost, while the singles final later this month will be between number one seed Dave Waltham and third seed Frost.
There was one major upset in the singles, with Calvin Butterfield defeating highly-rated Dennis Pearman 21-13, 22-20.
Pearman was also on the losing end of an upset in the doubles where he and Derron Trott -- the second seeds -- went down 21-17, 16-21, 21-19 to Stuart Trott and Marlo DeShields.
Webb and King produced the other upset in the doubles when they beat third seeds Hasan Durham and Cory Berkeley, also in the first round, 18-21, 21-18, 21-17.
Pearman, his day ruined by the two defeats, choose not to compete in the consolation tournament.
A total of 30 players participated in the tournament.
DARTS DRT Marilyn Lewis and Charles Roberts completed a "three-peat'' of championships in the Bermuda Women's Darts League Mixed Doubles tournament when they defeated Terry Cartwright and Gregor McQueen 2-1 in the final.
In fact Lewis and Roberts won all their matches by a similar score-line after receiving a bye past the first round.
The tandems of Lisa Smith and Morris Outerbridge, Lynn Somner and Greg Nisbett and Jean Clark and Frankie Brewster became victims of the Lewis/Roberts juggernaut, before the ultimate triumph was completed.
