Bermuda crash again after late slump

Bermuda Under-17s 120 All Dion Stovell needed was for somebody to stay with him for a reasonable amount of time and Canada could have suffered their second defeat on tour.

Instead they won for the second straight day against the Bermuda youth team when the local youngsters fell 37 runs short of victory at St. David's.

It was the closest result of the three matches played so far, with Canada following up their loss on run rate to the East All-Stars on Monday with victory by 50 runs over Bermuda on Sunday.

Stovell, coming in at number three after the fall of Delyone Borden with 17 runs on the board, watched nine other partners go cheaply as his 33 not out came in vain.

Promoted from number eight on Sunday, Stovell justified the move with a mature innings in which he hit just one four as he was content to pick up his runs between the wicket.

After adding 32 with Chris Foggo (21) for the second wicket, Stovell struggled to find a partner willing to hang around as only one other, Landro Minors with 10, reached double figures in the innings.

Again the Canadians bowled economically, with Chris Argunen taking four for 21 off 8.2 overs and Paul Ziesmann supporting with two for 11 as Bermuda slumped from 90-6 to 120 all out with more than six overs remaining.

Nathan Richards, one of Canada's main strike bowlers, rescued them from a precarious position of 55-6 with five boundaries in a knock of 36 at number seven.

Batting first for the third straight match after being sent in, Canada had an opening stand of 23, many of which were extras, before quick wickets fell to leave them in early trouble. Captain Ashish Bagai was amongst the early wickets, falling to O.J.Pitcher without scoring.

Richards came to the crease at 54-5 and departed on 135-8 after adding a useful 36 with Argunen for the eighth wicket. Argunen was last out for 14.

Also in double figures for the Canadians were Minhas with 15 and Ziesmann with 12, coming after the top five batsmen all failed to reached double figures against some tight Bermuda bowling.

Captain Stephen Outerbridge called on eight bowlers with Philip Thomas the most successful with four for 32 from 7.5 overs while Pitcher took three for 20 from seven overs of seam.

The same two teams meet today at Sea Breeze Oval in the fourth game.
