Bermuda enter Paris draw

Cup. The word is that Bermuda's name will be included in today's main draw in Paris, despite earlier indications from the Bermuda Football Association that they would not be mounting a World Cup campaign.

Cuba is another country believed to have had a last-minute change of heart.

And with both countries coming under the CONCACAF (North and Central American and Caribbean) zone, it's likely that the governing body for football in the region may have had some involvement in getting them to reconsider. But this could not be confirmed.

The BFA stunned the sporting public in September when they announced that Bermuda would not be entering the fray this time around. The announcement came just two years after coach Gary Darrell had led the national team on an impressive run in the World Cup qualifying competition back in 1993.

BFA general secretary David Sabir said at the time: "The executive committee have unanimously decided that we will not be participating in the 1988 World Cup qualifying round. In the final analysis it boiled down to us taking a look at our internal situation and factor in that we have a lot of work to do in Bermuda. We also realise that once we get Bermuda straight then we will be in a better position to represent Bermuda and consequently be able to join the international arena again.'' If Bermuda's entry is confirmed they will be fighting with 29 other countries for the three qualifying spots in the CONCACAF zone.
