But the seminar, which runs from October 16-19, is not just for those connected with the BTFA.
Some 20 letters and registration forms have been sent to Island sports associations inviting them to participate in the seminar, which is open to coaches, administrators and athletes.
Dr. Kelsick specilises in sports injuries, musculoskeletal rehabilitation and conditioning and has treated some of the world's top athletes, including Bermudian track stars Brian Wellman and Troy Douglas.
Currently the chiropractor for the Vancouver Grizzlies of the NBA, Dr. Kelsick was recently a team physician at the World Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Athens. He was previously a physician for the Dominican and Nigerian teams at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in March and was also team chiropractor for the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in Vancouver this year.
"Having talked with him and seen him at work at the Olympic Games, certainly I was keen for him to come here and do a series of presentations,'' said national track coach Gerry Swan.
"In my opinion this will be important to the education of our coaches in any sport. He will be covering some very important topics, not just for coaches by also administrators.'' Areas to be covered at the seminar include the science and medicine support team, athlete health and safety, physiological laws of training, physical preparation and assessment, muscular conditioning, diet for peak performance and mental preparation.
Dr. Kelsick has treated and consulted athletes in other sports such as hockey, football, basketball, figure skating and maintains a private sports injury practice in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. He is also a noted author, lecturer and researcher.
The seminar will run from 6-10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 9-2 p.m. on Saturday and 8.30-3 p.m. on Sunday. Cost is $225 for associations sending three representatives; $100 for individuals.
National associations who respond early to the letters will have the opportunity to have a limited number of athletes examined by Dr Kelsick.
SOCCER SOC BAA Wanderers and Robin Hood, first and second in the Group A league standings last season, advanced to the October 18 final of the Commercial League A Cup with wins over Mariners and Island Rangers on Tuesday.
Hood beat Rangers 3-1 at BAA Field on goals from Allan Mooney, Mike Stenhouse and Jarlath McCabe. Blane Outerbridge replied for Rangers. Earlier, BAA, who lost their opening league match on Saturday to North Village Rams, were stretched by Mariners before winning 4-1 on penalty kicks.
Alistair Smith scored BAA's goal in regulation time while Craig Dixon tallied for Mariners.
Friendship Trophy action continues tonight at Somerset where Boulevard and Southampton Rangers will be seeking relief from indifferent league form when they meet at 9.00 p.m. at Somerset. Neither team has won in the league and are in the bottom three places in the standings after two matches. However, one of them will pick up victory tonight in this knockout competition which involves only First Division teams.
The 7.00 p.m. opener sees Fire Service and Valley meeting in the Commercial League B semi-final. Winner plays North Village in the final on October 23.
