Bermudian pair to race at Henley
Hampshire, will send both men's and women's rowing teams to the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in England -- and included will be two Bermudians.
Brother and sister Tucker and Laura Murphy of Paget will be a part of the historic occasion when they represent St. Paul's, a residential boarding school.
Laura graduated on May 31 and Tucker will do so in 1999.
Men's teams have taken part for many years at the Henley Regatta but this will mark the first time that St. Paul's will be represented by both men and women since becoming co-educational.
The girls varsity team will compete in the Henley Women's Regatta. They were undefeated this season, winning the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championship in Worcester, Massachusetts. They depart today for England and tomorrow will practice on the Thames River at Henley.
On June 13 and 14 the St. Paul's girls crew will compete in the Reading Amateur Regatta, rowing back to Henley the next day to continue practising.
The Women's Henley Regatta is scheduled for June 20 and 21, with the St.
Paul's girls team competing for the Peabody Cup.
The St. Paul's boys, who had an undefeated season, leave on June 17 for England after practices and the high school nationals in Cincinatti. The next day they will train on the Thames and on June 19 they row to Marlow to compete in the Marlow Regatta the next day.
On June 26 the men's team begin qualifying races for the Henley Royal Regatta and on June 27 they row in the Reading Regatta. The Henley Regatta takes place from July 1-5.
