BFA holds clinic on Dutch-style coaching
An innovative clinic aimed at teaching Island soccer coaches how to improve their players' technique is being staged by the Bermuda Football Association.
Introduced by top Dutch coach Wiel Coerver, Coerver coaching is an unique style based on developing individual attributes.
The method has been endorsed by many famous international players and coaches including Franz Beckenbauer and Karl Heinz Rummennigge of West Germany, Peter Beardsley of Newcastle and England, Roberto Rivelino of Brazil, Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United, Liam Brady of Arsenal and Ireland, and Anson Dorance, coach of the US Women's 1991 World Cup Champions.
BFA coaching committee chairman Jon Beard said: "It will be a tremendous supplement to any coach's repertoire of coaching skills.
"Running the clinic will be the director of Coerver coaching in the Americas, former Chelsea and Scotland winger Charlie Cooke.
"Assisting him will be the Coerver regional director for Tennessee, Brett Mosen. Before moving on to the States and developing his coaching, Brett was resident in Bermuda, and played for the very strong BAA Wanderers team of the early 80s. He is currently coaching in the A league for Nashville Metros.'' The clinic is being held on the Saltus field on Saturday February 17, and will run from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The cost is $50 per coach, and includes a Coerver video, T-shirt, and light lunch.
"The clinic is for coaches of all ages, but will be particularly pertinent for those working with youth players,'' Beard said.
To assist those working with younger players to attend the course, the Shell Youth League under-11 and under-13 divisions will be suspended for that day.
