St. George's All Stars 2, Island Rangers 3 Island Rangers moved into the preliminary round of the FA Cup after defeating the almost forgotten St. George's All Stars.
The All Stars were only scheduled after it was realised by the BFA that they had been left out of the initial draw. Despite great efforts by the band of mostly former First Division players, they were undone by the more youthful Rangers led by player-coach Troy Berkeley.
Berkeley spurred his team-mates with two first half goals and was a constant thorn in the side of the All Star defence, which was directed by Delbert Minors. And it was only Berkeley's lack of finishing that denied him increasing his tally even further.
The former Somerset Trojan forward scored in the 15th and 43rd minutes -- both times with headers -- knocking home right wing crosses.
Blaine Outerbridge aided with a score in the 69th minute that made it 3-1 and proved to be the decisive marker.
George Cannonier had earlier equalised for All Stars in the 27th minute and Eugene Crockwell cut the score to 3-2 in the 72nd minute after Rangers had gone two goals up.
St. George's battled gamely to the end with Cal Richardson and Cal Raynor figuring prominently in most attacking maneuvers. Along with the continued faltering by the Ranger defence, the All Stars were unable to garner the needed score.
