Bromby lifts Etchells crown
the Bacardi National Keelboat Championships held over the weekend in the Great Sound.
Competing in the popular Etchells class, Bromby was severely tested by Adam Barboza, but in the end was able to fend off the challenge of his rival and sail away with top honours.
Bromby leaves with crew Lee White this week for Sydney where he will compete in the Star class.
On the weekend he recorded three firsts, a second, third and fourth place finish to end on 71 points compared to Barboza's 91 based on his record of 2-3-1-5-1-3 for the six race series.
Third was Andreas Lewin on 16 points.
But it was never easy for Bromby, who will likely face Barboza again during the Colorcraft Gold Cup qualifiers next month.
The championship came down to the last race as it was, with Bromby merely needing to ensure Barboza did not win.
Barboza was unable to shake the cover of his burly adversary, and got pinned to the far left side of the course, allowing two boats to slip through to the finish, much to the delight of Bromby.
