PHC 1 Devonshire Colts 0 (PHC won 2-0 on aggregate) Veteran midfielder Brian (Bulla) Anderson turned back the clock with a spectacular goal at St.David's yesterday to ensure PHC an unprecedented sixth Dudley Eve title.

Anderson, at 34 the oldest player on the pitch and seemingly past his peak, produced a blast from the past in the second half to give the Zebras a 2-0 aggregate lead in the two-leg final.

Picking up possession 25 yards from goal, Anderson made Colts pay for marking him so loosely as he unleashed a fierce shot that smashed into the back of the net even though goalkeeper Troy Hall got his fingers to the ball.

It was a nice way for Anderson to bring in his New Year, the goal being worthy of a cup final winner.

"I hit one earlier in the season against St.David's and they (team-mates) had been encouraging me to shoot more,'' said Anderson afterwards.

"This was the opportunity. It brought back memories. I knew I just had to get my head down and get over the ball.'' Anderson was a member of the 1985-86 PHC team who beat Dandy Town to win the Dudley Eve for the second time. He returned to the club this season after spells with Boulevard and Devonshire Cougars and though the legs can't keep up with the younger ones in the team, Anderson's experience in midfield has proven invaluable.

PHC only brought a 1-0 lead into this match so they expected a 90-minute battle from Colts who knew they were still very much in contention. And had it not been for some poor finishing, Colts could have wiped out that lead for they applied the majority of the pressure in the second half.

Colts had the best of the early chances, a series of one touch passes from Ellington Weldon to Keimon Lawrence to Jermaine Belboda resulting in the latter putting a shot wide of the far post in the 12th minute after Lawrence had knocked down Weldon's cross into the box.

Colts made three changes from the first final on the weekend, bringing in Anthony Wilson at full back and moving Jermaine Belboda to midfield, and giving starting places to Keishon Smith in midfield and Weldon up front.

PHC's two changes from the last match saw Desmond Burgess return for Dano Outerbridge in defence and Kenny Mills start up front in place of Tokia Russell.

PHC were always the more threatening on the break but they were unable to capitalise on a couple of errors in the Colts defence as Otis Steede shot wide and then Sheridan Ming headed into the sidenetting after Steede intercepted a pass on the edge of the Colts penalty area and quickly whipped in a cross to the back post.

Mills had the ball in the Colts goal on the half-hour but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Then after Stanton Lewis pushed forward from full back and shot wide of the far post in the 50th minute, PHC's next raid produced the all-important goal just a minute later.

Anderson's rocket found the target and had the PHC fans among the season's biggest crowd jumping for joy.

At 2-0 down, Colts knew what they had to do but either slack finishing or good defensive work by the PHC defence neutralised some promising attacking moves.

Not even the loss of Lewis to an injury in the 64th minute could shake the foundation at the back as Blenn Bean switched to his position with the introduction of Shawn Simons.

For the rest of the match most of the attacking was towards PHC's goal in front of the clubhouse as captain Shannon Burgess deserted his sweeper position for a more attacking role.

A good run into the box by substitute Quincy Aberdeen late in the game resulted in a weak shot which 'keeper Jay Smith collected comfortably and seconds later a well hit effort from the edge of the area by Jermel Belboda brought off a good save from the teenager.

PHC broke out of defence in the final minute and almost added a second through substitute Shawn Simons before Hall then blocked a shot from Steede. But by then it was all over for Colts anyway.
