Burnley fly in to celebrate promotion

night with a 3-1 away win over Rochdale, arrive in Bermuda today for a nine-day stay as reward for their successful promotion season.

But the Lancashire club won't be playing any matches during their stay, as Bermuda Football Association administrative assistant Joe Brown confirmed yesterday that his office wasn't even aware they were coming.

"We were not aware but that's not unusual because we get teams coming to Bermuda quite frequently at the end of the season as a bonus for promotion or cup success,'' Brown said yesterday.

"We wouldn't expect that they would be coming to Bermuda with training on their minds. I feel this is purely a bonus for winning promotion. However we'll be making unofficial contact with them when they arrive, just as a courtesy call.'' Burnley will join Shawn Goater's Rotherham United in the Second Division (the First Division is to be renamed the Premier Division) next season. They were last in the First Division in the mid-1970s.
