The knockout competition, with a consolation event for first match losers, has attracted a total of 42 teams, each comprising a minimum of three players.

A handicap scoring system will be used to balance the playing levels, ensuring that the stronger players have to score more points to win the match.

For the first time the sponsors, AF Smith, have fielded two teams, captained by Bruce MacKenzie and Bob Slack. Also making their debut are the Squash Club's own staff team, calling themselves the `Old Pros' and comprising of Jane Parker, Judith Marsden and Geoff Hindess.

They are hoping to hold their own -- should they get through the early rounds -- against the likes of Bank of Bermuda's `Rose Between Two Thorns', captained by Julian Rose.

Returning for the fourth year running are the `Court Jesters' from AS&K, led by Janine Bentley and old favourites, Naz Jetha's BPSA Simbas.

Other companies represented include: Colonial Insurance, Argus Insurance, Shell, Sea-Land Construction, OBM Bank of NT Butterfield, Ernst & Young, BF&M, IRM, Scandinavian Re, Symphony Management, Princess Hotel, ADN Management, Oasis Nightclub, KEMH and the Aquarium.

Matches will run from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on Saturday, 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Sunday, and 6-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The finals are scheduled for 7.00 p.m. next Wednesday.
