Cameron treble sparks Canaries

Ali Cameron scored a hat-trick to help Canaries keep their unbeaten streak going with a battling victory in Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association action at the weekend.

Cameron, filling in for Emma Garon, fired home the first after receiving a long corner pass from Rhonda Rawlins.

Rawlins scored the second herself with a stop followed by a quick shot from a short corner.

Lisa Ray pulled one back for Orioles before the break, but Cameron grabbed two more goals in quick succession in the second half to seemingly seal the win for Canaries.

But Orioles got themselves back in the match with two quick-fire goals of their own, from Georgina Adlam and Zina Jones.

The Yellows survived a few scares late in the game, but hung on to claim maximum points.

Bluebirds A 2 Swallows A 1 Collette Doughty set Bluebirds on their way to victory in a tight, fast-paced match with a superb shot to open the scoring.

But Swallows were soon level, thanks to Mel Burns' strike from a short corner.

Swallows goalkeeper Trish Duncan pulled off a fine save to keep out a penalty flick, but Bluebirds' pressure finally told in the second half with a winning goal touched in off the post.

Canaries A 1 Swifts A 0 With the A Division title wrapped up, Canaries allowed their defenders to play up front in a light-hearted fixture.

But it took forward Lisa DeSilva, who was playing in defence, to settle the contest with the only goal.

Orioles B 2 Canaries B 1 Orioles came from behind to register their first victory this year.

Goals midway through the second half from Alison Ince and Okina McGowan gave the police team the points, but defender Jamie McKenna was their star performer.

Canaries had piled on the pressure in the first half, but only had an Ali Cameron goal, fired in from an acute angle, to show for it.

Swifts B 2 Canaries B 2 Swifts came back from two goals down at half-time to salvage a point.

Ali Cameron put Canaries in command with her fifth and sixth goals of the weekend, as her side dominated the first period.

But Swifts pulled one back after the break with a well executed penalty corner and then Megan Spurling kept her cool to level the scores with a penalty flick, awarded after a scuffle in the goalmouth.

Swallows B 0 Bluebirds B 0 Swallows dominated the first half play without finding a way through the Bluebirds defence.

Bluebirds grabbed the initiative in the second period, but they were also unable to find a way to goal.
