Cats fought off a serious challenge from the Young Ones before pulling off a

The Stray Cats, made up of past Bermuda junior players in their 30s, had a 5-4 escape against the junior national players.

Members of the Stray Cats are Jan Brewer, Murray Brewer and Sean Kelly while the juniors consisted of Steven Smith, TJ Clark and Justin Robinson.

Kelly scraped a 2-1 win over Robinson in the first round but Smith levelled in the second with a 2-1 triumph over Jan Brewer. Murray Brewer settled the final score with a 2-1 win over Clark in the deciding match.

The all girls team, Three Women and a Baby, consisting of Liz Martin, Chris Barnes and Nicky McMartin, also had a close 5-4 encounter against a team of visiting doctors. The DT's were made up of Steve Everest, Dan Quarry and Warren Heywood.

Everest had a 3-0 win over Liz Martin but Barnes equalled things with a 3-0 win over Quarry. Heywood took the first game against Nicky McMartin by a 15-10 margin but the scoreline was reversed in the second.

In a nail-biting decided finesse won through when McMartin took the girls into the next round with a 15-12 win.

After the second weekend of exciting play in the BIAS Educational Squash Tournament, the all-female team of Laura Robinson and Janine Bentley lead the field in the Third Division.

Robinson is the top female player in the under-10 division while Bentley is the women's club champion.

After a close three-all result against first round opponents Michael Shrubb and Mel Caines, the pair then went on to secure a 4-2 victory over Douglas Olson and Denise Kyme. Three of the six games were decided in sudden death, 14-all finishes.

Meanwhile in Division F, fellow members of the Robinson family, Andrew and Bruce Robinson -- a father and son team -- stormed their way to the top with two victories.

In their first match against Simon and David Morrison, Andrew notched up a 3-0 win while his father scored two games.

TENNIS The Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association invited juniors to participate in a tournament over the mid-term break, prior to the last official tournament to be held at Coral Beach in December.

Jovan Whitter and Tara Lambert won the 18s boys and girls divisions respectively while Michael Higginbottom won the 14s boys and Sasha Fisher the girls 14s.

In the girls 11s, Anna McKenzie triumphed and in the boys 11s, James Foster and Nathan Swan won their respective round robin groups.

CORRECTION In yesterday's Royal Gazette , the results of the BPSA 10-k road race incorrectly listed one of the finishers as Barbara Luchen. It should have been Barbara Tucker.
