Champion Pearman takes over top spot
today's final round of the Bermuda Professional Golfers Association Championship at the Mid-Ocean Club.
Pearman, head professional at the Ocean View club, carded a two-over-par 73 yesterday to sit on 222 after three rounds.
First-round leader Cornell Bean, of Belmont Golf Club, who shared the lead with Pearman at the start of the day, slipped three shots back after shooting a 76.
Derrick Douglas of Riddell's Bay carded a 78 and is in third place on 228, while Glenn Simrose to fourth.
Pearman is still far from happy with his performance.
"From tee to green, nothing is working,'' he said after his round.
"I'm not going out there thinking of shooting 66 or 65 like I usually do. I just don't feel confident.
"I'm just trying to keep the ball in play. I don't have the 60s in my vocabulary this week. I feel like I'm out there just trying to break 80.'' Pearman will be chasing his seventh BPGA Championship in today's final round.
First prize is $1,600, with $1,100 for the runner-up and $900 for the third-placed finisher.
In a separate 54-hole championship for Super Seniors (60 and over), Frank Rabain took top spot on 241, while Norman Minors was second on 244, Herbie Minors third on 250 and Leo Custodio fourth with 252.
DWAYNE PEARMAN -- Leads the PGA Championship by three strokes going into today's final round at Mid Ocean.
