Champions Boulevard suffer heavy defeat
If their Charity Cup meeting last month was close, this second clash between the two teams this season was anything but, as Vasco romped to a comfortable victory at BAA Field to win Group A of the Martonmere Cup.
Ascento Russell started the rout when he scored at the third attempt after his 26th minute penalty was saved by Andre Hendrickson.
The penalty was awarded after Basden was fouled. Boulevard thought they should have had a penalty themselves in the 37th minute when Otis Minors was knocked to the ground by Diallo Sharrieff, but all they got was an indirect freekick for the `obstruction' offence.
Vasco saved their best football for the second half when it was virtually one way traffic. Former Boulevard midfielder Tafari Outerbridge scored with a header just six minutes after coming on in the 59th minute.
Basden added to the tally with the third in the 76th minute when he created space on the right side and planted a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
And despite having Sinclair Gibbons sent off in the 86th minute for a second bookable offence when he had a scuffle with substitute Alfred Wollfe, who was also booked, Vasco managed to add a fourth in the last minute when Basden added his second.
