Championship on Saturday at Elliott School gym when he finished with an 8-1

Trott tied with Phillip Hackett, who also won eight and lost one, but was deemed the winner after beating Hackett in their match 24-22, 21-19. Trott's only loss came against female participant Monique Ternier who finished third overall with a 7-2 record.

Trott, Hackett and Ternier all entered the last round with identical 7-1 records. Trott defeated Mike Lindo 21-15, 18-21, 21-15 and that meant that Ternier could win the tournament by beating Hackett because she had beaten Trott.

And Trott had to rely on Hackett beating Ternier in order to retain his crown as Trott had previously defeated Hackett. After Trott beat Lindo in his final match the highest Hackett could finish was runner-up.

Hackett went on to defeat Ternier 21-11, 17-21 22-20 in a gruelling match in which he suffered from cramp in the final game. Earlier Dennis Pearman upset Ternier 21-18, 21-15 to help set up the grand finale.

Pearman finished fourth overall with a 6-3 record. Number one seed Nick Frost had to withdraw because of cracked ribs suffered in a soccer match.
