But there was encouragement in defeat as the rebuilding of the national senior programme continued yesterday. Some important lessons are being learned, too.

"In international football you have to be disciplined for 90 minutes and at this point we don't have the fitness, our legs got pretty heavy, and it showed in our performance in the last 15 miuntes of the game,'' said head coach Calderon as he analysed the 2-1 loss.

"When you are playing a professional team you have to at least match them at their level in the fitness perspective. I thought we deserved to at least draw the game.

"Any time you play against a quality opponent like Denmark, the best you can expect, when you have not been given an opportunity to put together a team, is a draw. From a defensive perspective we wanted to at least make sure we were organised and I thought we were.'' From the two Antigua matches to this match, 12 changes have been made to the team. With Dennis Robinson injured and Otis Steede also taking a knock more changes are likely for the second match of the tour tomorrow night at BAA Field.

"We have had collectively five training sessions in order to prepare this team and have made 12 changes in three games,'' said Calderon, who stressed he wasn't using those obstacles as excuses.

"It is good and bad in this situation: the good thing is we have a chance to see a lot of players, the bad thing is we haven't had a chance to have any continuity.

"I'm extraordinarily pleased with the result and in terms of the way we played and extraordinarily pleased with the fact that there is something to build on. I think there is a very promising future if we are able to keep the core of players that we have together.'' Best, the Technical Director, added: "Overall I'm happy be Turn to Page 27 Coach: We deserved to get a draw From Page 25 cause we had seven people out. We just have to keep pressing and if we do that we're going to be okay.'' Calderon admits to be impressed with the Danes. He described them as a typical European team.

"They constantly move off the ball and are fit,'' said Calderon. "They had a few chances in the first half and if one would have gone in it might have changed the course of the game.

"What we wanted to do -- and I think it worked extremely well -- was stop their fullbacks from going forward. It forced them to knock long balls right into our centre-halfs.'' The aim of the Bermuda coaches is to have a good team in place by the time professionals Shawn Goater, Kyle Lightbourne and David Bascome return to the team for the Caribbean Cup.

"That's our goal, to be a team come May and this is a great opportunity for us to do that,'' Calderon said with optimism.
