Collins guides Eton to third tour win

U-19 All-Stars 132 Sam Collins claimed four for 18 from nine overs as Eton College protected their modest total at Sea Breeze Oval to gain a 23-run win on Thursday.

In a match that was reduced to 43 overs a team after starting 90 minutes late, Eton struggled for runs with only middle-order batsman Ed Fielding making a decent contribution with 47 before being run out. His innings included four fours.

The new-ball pair of Ben Phipps and Jason Williams enjoyed some early success after Eton won the toss and elected to bat first. Eton were soon in trouble at 30-4, of which captain and opener Tim Hawk contributed 14.

Fielding shared in two important stands, adding 39 with Chris Beaney for the fifth wicket and then 37 with Richard Briscoe for the sixth wicket when the run out of Fielding ended the partnership.

Phipps, who came back to claim another late wicket, finished with three for 30 from his eight overs while Williams had two for 19 and OJ Pitcher two for 20.

Chris Foggo's loss in the first over was an early setback for the All-Stars, who then recovered with a second-wicket stand of 46 between Shane Hollis (19) and Landro Minors (14). But the absence of a big stand in the middle order saw them slump to 87-7.

Jessie Belboda's dogged 21 not out from 52 balls kept their hopes alive before the run outs of Kyan Butterfield and Phipps left the All-Stars short of their winning target.

Due to the unavailabilty of the majority of the Senior East XI, today's final tour match will be against the East Under-19s at St. David's. Eton have a 3-2 record from their five matches so far, with both losses coming against senior opposition.

Foggo, Minors, OJ Pitcher and Stephen Outerbridge are expected to play for the East.
