Ellington Weldon is considering quitting the game he has enjoyed since the age of 16 because of family commitments and the demands of a new job.

"I have not been out to training at all this season,'' he said on the eve of Sunday's Charity Cup game against Boulevard, later rescheduled for Wednesday at 9 p.m. at BAA because of inclement weather.

"I just need a break. I am just tired. I don't know at this point what will happen later on in the season.'' While his decision was not yet cast in concrete, Weldon, 28, said that he let the coaching staff know at the end of last season that he did not intend to play this season. Weldon said he recently started a new job at the Bermuda Telephone Company and needed all his energy to learn the new procedures of his new vocation.

"I have just started the job in June and right now that is my focus,'' he added. "I have no desire to play football.'' Weldon said that he has already made his desire known to coach Vic Ball and could not say if he would make an appearance for Colts.

Meanwhile, Boulevard midfielder Dwight Warren will miss the clash with Colts because of a groin injury he received in a practice match a week ago.

Warren has been enduring daily physical therapy to cope with the injury and is not expected to take the field for up to a month.

Wednesday night will also feature a women's game -- technically the real overall season-opener in that it starts at 7.00.

The match will pit Rude Girls against Wolves, also at BAA.

Rude Girls were league runners-up last season and replace champions PHC, who have not entered a team this season. Wolves are the FA Cup champions.

BFA president Neville Tyrell said Sunday's games were cancelled because the rain would have affected attendance.

"This is our charity match and the proceeds (from the gate) will go to two charities,'' he said.

The bulk of the proceeds from the matches will this year be presented to the St. John's Ambulance and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda.
