Dinghy season got underway in St. George's yesterday.

The RBYC boat suffered in the first race, encountering spinnaker trouble and protest calls.

But Contest , skippered by Andreas Lewin, wound up first in the second and third races when the wind swung around from the northeast to the east.

Somerset boats Challenger and Echo also enjoyed a good day's sailing, but failed to get into either first or second place at any time.

In the first race for the Heritage Day Cup, Contest started out in the lead but by the end had fallen into last place after failing to get her chute up.

Elizabeth was the winner, followed by Challenger .

St.George's dinghy Victory , after languishing in last place for most of the race, got her second wind on the very last leg and pulled into fourth place.

In the second race for the Anniversary Cup, Contest quickly moved into the number one spot and stayed there for the rest of the race despite a challenge from Port Royal , skippered by Bert Wright.

But Port Royal lost time on each leg, leaving Contest to win comfortably.

In the third race for the Master's Cup, Port Royal suffered bad luck and was forced into last place by the end Contest cruised home first ahead of Challenger and Elizabeth .
