Corday, Edwards in sparkling form

clubs to victory on Sunday but West Indian Association remained at the top of the Commercial Cricket League by notching up their third successive win.

Devonshire Stars produced their best batting display of the season in running up 204 at the Royal Naval Field but Corday's unbeaten 105, containing three sixes and 15 fours, swept Sandys to an emphatic eight-wicket victory with seven overs to spare.

Corday, who survived a low chance to slip early in his innings, was given good support by Terry Ward -- brilliantly caught and bowled by skipper Gary Ascento for 47 -- and Anthony DeSilva who hit an unbeaten 39.

Earlier Derek Smith, with four sixes and nine fours in his 68, and Jeremy Fray, with three sixes and five fours, enabled Stars to reach 200 for the first time this season. Newcomer Pat Beckham picked up three for 40 for Sandys.

Only nine wickets fell at Shelly Bay where defending champions Forties won for the second week running, overhauling North Village's 194 for five with eight and a half over to spare.

Edwards struck 13 fours in a chanceless 100 from 127 balls, carrying Forties to the brink of victory after sharing a third wicket stand of 104 with skipper Gordon Campbell whose unbeaten 42 included three fours. Leon Dickinson cracked six fours in his 34 off 24 balls.

Openers David Scraders and skipper Mike Young gave Village the perfect start after being sent in with a partnership of 67, broken in the 15th over when leg spinner Oscar Andrade (two for 59) had Young caught for 34.

Scraders, dropped twice off difficult chances in the deep, mixed caution with aggression in compiling a fine unbeaten 87. He added 96 for the fourth wicket with Gerald Bean, caught at long leg for 50 in the final over in which Oliver Franks (two for 40) picked up both his wickets.

Scraders faced 130 balls and hit three sixes and two fours while Bean hit four fours from 44 balls.

West Indian Association overcame a disastrous start to run out comfortable five-wicket winners over St. David's at Wellington Oval.

Left-arm medium pacer Jeff Pitcher (three for 26) reduced WIA, chasing 165 for victory, to nine for three but a hard-hitting unbeaten 79 by Andy Boyce, helped by Randy Liverpool's 36 and Olin Clarke's 22, sealed victory with 10 overs to spare. Boyce hit four sixes and eight fours.

A patient unbeaten 61 (four fours) by Elliott Pitcher -- his second half century of the season -- provided the backbone of St. David's 164 for seven.

Keith Richardson made 34 and Jeff Pitcher 22.

George Rock was WIA's top bowler with three for 45.
