Cougars aim for double

Devonshire Cougars secured a berth in the final of the Second Division Shield with a workman-like performance against gutsy Hamilton Parish in the curtain-raiser last night at BAA field.

A perfectly executed free-kick from midfield maestro Dale Russell together with another strike from Dapo Frederick, both in the first half, proved enough to allay the challenge by Parish.

Clearly a class above were the Devonshire club, currently the lone unbeaten side in the lower division.

From the outset they were able to move forward at will and it took just eight minutes for them to convert domination to goals as Russell stepped to the fore.

An infringement just outside the Parish penalty area resulted in the dread-locked midfielder hammering the home past a defenceless Devrae Hollis, standing in goal for Parish.

However, it took just under half an hour for them to strike again through Frederick, who took advantage of a mix-up between sweeper Johnny Nusum and Hollis to plant the ball home for a 2-0 advantage.

The second half witnessed the voracious Cougars swarming yet again, with only poor finishing denying them from increasing their tally.

Cougars will face the winner of next week's Port Royal versus BAA match in the final on April 3.
