Courtney replaces injured Adams as Jamaica captain

Former West Indies captain Courtney Walsh will captain Jamaica in their first game in the Red Stripe Bowl against Bermuda at Alpart next Wednesday.

The giant opening bowler takes over skippering duties from Jimmy Adams, who has been omitted from the squad after being injured while bowling for the West Indies in the Sharjah Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Walsh is one of five international players from the defeated Sharjah Cup squad -- the others are Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Ricardo Powell and Nehemiah Perry -- who will return to the Caribbean for the competition, where they will link up with nine others to form a final 14 from an original 25 names.

Opener Leon Garrick, who was not included in last year's squad, is back and is expected to open the innings with left-hander Gayle or Robert Samuels.

Paceman Franklyn Rose is also included.

Meanwhile, the second of Bermuda's opponents in the 50-overs-a-side competition -- defending champions Guyana -- have included a new fast bowling threat in their squad.

Colin Stuart, who was called up to the West Indies senior team during the series against Sri Lanka in the Caribbean last year, is one of three new faces in a squad which no longer boasts the talents of the retired Carl Hooper and Clayton Lambert.

Stuart, who has played for the West Indies A team but has yet to appear in Guyana's one day outfit, is joined in the squad by opener Ricardo Mohamed and middle-order batsman Homchand Pooran, both of whom made their four-day debuts in the Busta Cup earlier this year.

West Indies regular Shavnarine Chanderpaul, another member of the humbled Sharjah Cup squad, has been named captain of a side also includes fast bowling colleague Reon King. Two other players with international one-day experience, all-rounders Keith Semple and Neil McGarrell, are also named in the 14-man squad. Bermuda's final opponents -- the Windward Islands -- have yet to announce their final 14.
