Cup final suffers second wash-out
night because of bad weather.
The match between Vasco and Devonshire Colts has now been rescheduled for tonight at Devonshire Rec. at 8.00.
Originally the first leg of the Dudley Eve final was scheduled for Sunday at Bernard Park but heavy rain forced its postponement. Rain continued to fall yesterday, forcing a second postponement and if the match does not go ahead tonight then Thursday at Wellington Oval, set aside for the second leg, will instead see the first leg.
Meanwhile, the much-delayed Over-40s double-header, re-arranged for tonight, has now tentatively been pencilled in for next Monday at Devonshire Rec.
A total of around 150 players aged over 40 are listed to grace the field in two games between Key West Rangers and Pembroke Juniors and West End Rovers and Wellington Rovers.
The games, in which double substitutions will take place at regular intervals, are a prelude to the planned senior league programme which will feature 11 sides when it gets underway on January 8 after two years in development.
The league's chief organiser, David Burch, will captain the West End side in the main fixture, while Russell Knight will wear the skipper's armband for Wellington as the teams battle it out for the EF Gordon Trophy.
Among those on show will be many former internationals. West End will include goalkeeper Sam Nusum, his brother Johnny and Gary Darrell -- all one-time North American Soccer League players -- Randy Bean and Ralph (Gumbo) Bean, Derrick Russell, ex-Trojans' full back Rudy Minors, midfield schemer George Brangman, Brandon Robinson, Larry Hunt and David Kneisler.
Wellington will be represented by Vic Ball, Mel Lewis, Cal Dill, Garrett (Punchy) Dill and Cyril Steede.
Special appearances are promised to be made by Dennis Wainwright, `Tiny' Ming, Glen (Gappa) Wade, `Scaley' Williams, David (Brickdust) Robinson and Bayfield Clark.
Burch said the idea was to end up with the two strongest sides on the field for the last few minutes.
