Danes fly in for two match tour
international development with confirmation that the Danish under-21 team would make a two-match visit this weekend.
On the heels of two matches against Antigua, which finished in 1-0 wins for the hosts and the visitors, two Bermuda Select teams will play against Denmark on Sunday at Wellington Oval (3.00 p.m.) and next Tuesday at BAA Field (8.00 p.m.).
The visiting squad, who arrive tomorrow, contain young professionals from Danish clubs, two with crack side Brondby IF.
The matches, which cannot be counted as full international games, will help technical director, Clyde Best, continue his development of the national team as they step up preparations for the Caribbean Championships in May and for Olympic and World Cup competitions.
Best was pleased with the performances of the national squad against Antigua as Kenny Mills marked his debut with the only goal in the first match. And he's eagerly awaiting the opportunity for the players to go up against a well-drilled European outfit.
However, the BFA will be hoping for better crowds than turned out to watch the Antigua matches. Just a few hundred made the trip to Somerset for the first game while rainy weather kept the fans away from Devonshire Rec. where Antigua gained revenge with a 1-0 win.
This Sunday's match will be preceded by a women's game while the high schools cup final between CedarBridge and Berkeley will precede next Tuesday's match, starting at 6.00.
Admission to all games will be $10 for adults and $5 for schoolchildren.
First and Second Division clubs have been reminded to send in their representatives for the Fastest Soccer Man in Bermuda series which will be held during the All-Star Classic on January 31.
Four heats will take place at half-time of the Women's All-Star match with the final scheduled at the match's conclusion.
Nominations are to be reported to organiser Craig Tyrrell at 236-8798 as soon as possible with each club limited to one runner.
Co-sponsors Night Flights Rentals, Lambert & Lambert and Inkspots have put up a round-trip air ticket to the US eastern seaboard for the winner.
