Darron Simons struck twice to deny Boulevard a sixth straight Martonmere Cup Final appearance.

The bearded Dandy Town striker showed the killer instinct in front of goal that made him last season's second leading goalscorer, hitting the target in the 54th minute and again moments before the end.

That gave his side the kind of scoreline their dominance, especially in the second half, deserved.

His first came courtesy of an error by Mitchell Trott whose weak clearance was charged down by Reggie Tucker and the ball fell kindly for Simons to shoot under goalkeeper Andre Hendrickson.

And he wrapped it up with Boulevard's hopes of an equaliser rapidly diminishing. The classy Devarr Boyles' volleyed through-ball found Simons, who outpaced a defender and again slotted home.

The initial skirmishes were fairly even, but with almost two thirds of the first half gone, Town stepped up the pace, going close three times in five minutes. Kris Martin's shot was deflected wide after great skill by Boyles had set him up, then Simons was just too high after a neat touch by Reggie Tucker.

On the half hour, a cross-shot by Dean Bailey caught Hendrickson by surprise and came back off his bar.

Ironically, after a period of pressure from Town, Boulevard almost took the lead against the run of play when Jahmiko Marshall's wayward pass was intercepted by Vernon Phillips. He played Dwight Warren into space just 10 yards out but his shot crashed back down off the underside of the bar.
