Having already pocketed the Dudley Eve Trophy, the Hornets are within an earshot of claiming the Coca-Cola First Division title and are also due to contest the Friendship Trophy final.

Add to that a 15-game unbeaten streak stretching from December 19 and the picture becomes quite clear as to what kind of roll the St. John's club have been on and who will be favoured.

Coach Mark Trott has constantly stressed thee importance of "taking one match at a time'' and his charges have responded in the best way possible, by winning and no less is expected come Sunday.

"For us I think we need to just go out and play as we have all season,'' sad Trott, who has taken Town to new heights in his first full year as the head man. "I want them to be consistent in their performance.'' However, in Colts they find a side that can knock some teams off stride merely by the energy they bring.

They are also hungry, with Sunday being their last opportunity for silverware and after ending on the losing end in two finals last year are no doubt anxious to dispel the bridesmaids tag.

"If you look at Devonshire Colts you see a very useful team which plays with a lot of enthusiasm,'' continued Trott. "They have some very good players and are doing well in the league.'' One of those is captain Ellington Weldon, last year's leading goal-scorer, but currently lying second with 14 strikes for the year, two less than Town's leading marksman, Carlos Smith.

Midfielders Leonard Hypolite and Mark Ray also stand as potential match-winners for the youthful Colts.

However, Town counter with the likes of Smith, Paul Cann and Kris Martin, all of whom have played vital roles throughout the 1993-94 campaign.

But while hoping to do well in the FA Cup, Trott emphasised that the league remains the top priority.

"We're still focussed mainly on the league,'' said Trott. "All season long we've said that to win other trophies would be a bonus, but in the overall scheme of things the league still stands as the main priority.'' The situation is one of total contrast at Colts. After coming within a breath of three titles last year Lorenzo Symonds' men urgently need to a win to eliminate their bridesmaids tag.

No one is more aware of this than captain Weldon himself.

"I guess that now is as good a time as any (to win one),'' he said. "It's going to take putting everything together on the day.

"Basically what is motivating us is the fact that we haven't won a trophy in several years.'' Still, Weldon said that they will count on their usual style of attack in taking on the Hornets and would not mind his team going down as the side to break their extended unbeaten streak.

"Early on during this season I said that I could see them going undefeated and I knew they were capable,'' Weldon continued, "but I think we can beat them and certainly am hopeful of that.

"It should be a really good game.'' There are two venue changes in today's Commercial Division, with Robin Hood taking on BAA at BAA field at 3.00 and not Shelly Bay as previously planned while Forties will meet Somerset Extros at Somerset CC at 1.00 instead of White Hill field at 3 p.m. Extros will also be involved in a make-up match on Monday night at Somerset CC (8.00) when they take on Island Rangers.

Talks have been initiated between English Premier League club Coventry and the BFA to possibly have the former make a return visit to the Island for a number of exhibition matches.
