DeSilva, Mansell advance

to play in the invitational Simon Bolivar golf tournament in Caracas, Venezuela, following a nail-biting play-off at Port Royal on Saturday.

In an 18-hole showdown between the top players on the current national squad, Mansell distanced himself from the field with a one-under-par 70.

But the remaining spot had to be decided over four extra holes after DeSilva and Barry Brewer tied for second on 77.

And it was DeSilva who emerged victorious by just one shot, shooting a score of 16 compared to Brewer's 17 on holes one, two, three and six.

Earlier, only one other player in the eight-man field -- A.Waring (79) -- had managed to break 80 over the regulation 18 holes. Douglas Morris and Chris Phillips carded 82 and Winston (Coe) Trott 84.

Mansell and DeSilva will now compete in Caracas from November 26 to 29.

Hank Ascento and Bill Pitt played in the same event a year ago but weren't eligible for Saturday's qualifier.
