Donawa, Bermuda's national champion, finished 15th out of 99 runners in the event held in Toronto on Saturday. His time of 38 minutes, 38 seconds, was the same as the 14th placed runner.

Being an overseas entrant, Donawa was not eligible for medal placings in the event, held on a 12 kilometre course consisting of four 3,000 metre laps, with the terrain hilly in places.

Donawa, more used to temperatures in the 70s, had to contend with a Celsius reading of just three degrees or 38 degrees Fahrenheit.

As a result, he began the race conservatively and at the end of the first lap was in 30th place.

However, he pushed hard in the remaining portion of the race, passing a host of other runners to claim 15th place at the finish.
