Douglas set to stay on for Red Stripe
a squad for the Red Stripe cricket tournament in Guyana early in October.
El James, president of the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control, had hoped that Douglas would be prepared to work with the squad in the same capacity and the coach indicated that he was looking forward to doing so.
"Yes, I intend to continue on, nothing has changed. Actually I already have a programme outlined and now am only waiting on the Board to hold a meeting before things can be finalised,'' said Douglas.
"We actually have a meeting with the Board tonight, hopefully everything will be sorted out and we can get on with the work that lies ahead in preparing the squad for the Red Stripe.'' The coach said that he was confident that Bermuda could come up with a strong squad which would work hard towards improving on their performance a year ago in Jamaica when they failed to win a game.
"Naturally it's too early to determine which way the selectors will decide to go in terms of the make-up of the squad. I have my own ideas, but I will still have to find out if the Board want us to take any specific direction in terms of the selection process,'' said Douglas.
Douglas was doubtless referring to a strategy of including younger players in order to give them exposure in a bid to build a team for the future.
But any significant influx of young players could have an affect if Bermuda want to improve on any negative reputation that their losses of a year ago may have created.
Some changes to last year's squad will be forced on the selectors. Anthony Amory quietly quit playing this season while Roger Blades returned home to Barbados.
