Dressage riders set for world challenge

Street to take on their counterparts from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic in the FEI World Dressage Challenge.

Two FEI international judges -- Else Mouw from Holland and Col. Pierre-Eric Jaque-Rod from Switzerland -- will fly into Bermuda for the competition and then give clinics afterwards.

The competition, which starts at 9.00 a.m., is geared towards countries who under normal circumstances cannot compete abroad because of time and expense.

So while the riders from Bermuda's world group will not be on the Island, they will ride the same tests in the same measured ring in front of the same two international judges who will fly to those countries for their respective competitions. Bermuda is the first country on the list.

Bermuda's riders in the World Challenge, which is entering its 17th year, are: Mary Frances Gaglio who will be riding Just Cruising.

Melinda DeCosta, 15-years-old, who will be on her horse, Quiet Lover.

Nicholas DeCosta, Melinda's 17-year-old brother, who will be riding Makin' Waves.

Harriet Richold who will be riding Filthy Rich.

Paula George who will be on her mount Beach Boy.

Ann Lindroth who will be on Central Carolina. The two have won the competition in the past.

Michelle Ingham who will be riding two horses -- Falkenkonig and Goletas Chance.

RIDING HIGH -- Michelle Ingham will be one of seven local riders competing in the FEI World Dressage Challenge on Saturday at Vesey Street. She is seen here riding Fatal Attraction at the North American Young Riders' Championships in the United States.
