Entering the day one shot behind overnight leader Quinton Sherlock, Spurling produced the second best round of the day to win by three strokes over a fast-finishing Michael Sims.

Spurling's total was 249 compared to a 252 for Sims, while Sherlock ballooned to 88 on the day, falling to fourth.

Sims and Craig Brown had the best rounds, both with 78s, but there would be no denying young Spurling, who played consistently all week. Brown was third five strokes off the pace on 254.

Justin Barritt continued his fine play in the novice group, handily winning the division. His 93 yesterday gave him a total of 274.

William Butterworth was second and Gina Bassett and Lisa Broomfield tied for third.

The Arton Trophy given to the net winners was yesterday won by the pair of Bermudian Patsy McLaughlin and Canadian Heather Colhoun as they held their place atop the leader board of the Mid Ocean Club's Eighth Annual Ladies Invitation Tournament.

A final-round 67 for a 198 three-day total proved enough for the twosome to hold off a late charge by Lady Langley and Canadian June Eyton, who shot a net 65 -- the best round of the day. Lady Langley and Eyton finished two strokes back on 200 tying with Zita Legere and Patricia Sheehan.

Shirley Wildi and Reggie Hawes walked away with the Bobbie Park Trophy as the gross winners for their 215 total. Madeline Joell and Robyn Roberson came in second on 218 trailed by Jean Mylrea and Ginette Spinucci.
