Dwight's double sinks Islanders

Two goals from Dwight Warren and one by Rodney Bascome sent St. David's crashing out of the FA Cup in this quarter-final at Lord's yesterday.

Champions Boulevard scored their first goal through Warren early in the opening half and added the other two shortly after the interval to put the result out of reach of their spirited opponents.

But St. David's, spearheaded by the appearance of Keith Jennings and Sergio Goater off the bench, didn't throw in the towel, pegging Boulevard back in their own half towards the end.

Some tantalising passes opened gaping holes in Boulevard's defence and it wasn't a surprise when the East Enders scored through Jennings after 71 minutes.

They missed another chance six minutes later when Jamel Warren blasted over from 17 yards. But this was to be the last effort of a late rally.

A Boulevard walkover had appeared on the cards as they dominated the early play, taking a deserved lead after 11 minutes when Warren combined with Bascome to score from 16 yards.

Boulevard pressed hard for a second but became frustrated when most of their build-ups ended with wayward passing.

The Islanders managed only isolated attacks with youngsters Otis Minors and Chae Simmons leading their raids with forceful sprints down the flanks only to see their crosses easily cleared by centre-backs Leroy Stevens and Herbie Bascome.

Boulevard finished the half attacking, but Bascome wasted two efforts by putting shots over while Kenny Hill did likewise.

Warren fired his side further ahead after 56 minutes when he headed home a cross from Neil Robinson as the rain began to fall.

Bascome then made it 3-0 after 60 minutes, scoring from a Vernon Eve cross.

Boulevard lost Stevens through an injury and seemed to take it easy afterwards. The eager St. David's team took full advantage of this lapse and played with more urgency as they controlled towards the end.

Jennings gave them some hope when he netted after 71 minutes, but that proved to be no more than a consolation.
