Easy pickings for second division

favourites over Commercial Division teams at Devonshire Rec. field as FA Cup gets under way with 10 elimination matches.

The matches, to be played at five different fields, involve five matches between Second and Commercial Division teams, four all-Commercial and one all-Second Division contest.

Last season in the elimination round there were also five matches between Second and Commercial Division teams, with the Second Division teams winning convincingly. Social Club blasted Coca-Cola 5-0, Vasco stopped Spinning Wheel 4-1, Port Royal hammered Robin Hood 6-3, Somerset Eagles dumped Prison Officers 6-1 and Southampton Rangers beat Fire Service 6-3 after extra time.

Of the five matches involving teams from the two divisions this time, the best chance for an upset rests with Spinning Wheel and Robin Hood of Group a in the Commercial Division who take on Somerset Bridge and Hamilton Parish respectively.

Spinning Wheel have a perfect record from three matches so far while their opponents in the 3.00 fixture at PHC Stadium, Somerset Eagles, are in last place in the Second Division with one win, and just two goals, from three matches so far.

The opening match at PHC Stadium sees Exiles, bottom of the Commercial Division Group A with no goals and no points from three matches, taking on new team Valley who have netted 12 goals in their first two matches in the Group B.

Hamilton Parish will not relish their match against Robin Hood who are led by last season's top scorer Desmond Minors. Parish, relegated from the First Division last season, have lost two straight matches following their season-opening win over Prospect and they can expect a tough battle from Hood in this 3.00 fixture at BAA field.

The opening match at BAA sees Prison Officers taking on Forties in one of the four all-Commercial Division clashes. Forties have not had the best of starts to the new season, with one win and two losses from three matches, but they still should be firm favourites over a Prison Officers team who are bottom of Group B with two losses from two outings. They have conceded 12 goals in the process.

KPMG Peat Marwick, who blew a two-goal lead against Commercial champions BAA Wanderers last weekend, take on new team Genesis in the opening match at Southampton Oval. Both have 2-1 records from three matches and though KPMG are in the higher division Genesis should not be taken lightly in what will be their first FA Cup outing.

The second match at Southampton Oval sees Second Division side Paget taking on Park United (formerly Coca-Cola). Paget should be favourites.

Double-headers are also scheduled for White Hill field and Devonshire Rec.

with the two fixtures at the Rec. featuring the two favourites for promotion from the Second Division.

The opening clash sees Wolves going up against lowly Commercial Division team Fire Service while the second encounters pits Devonshire Cougars against St.

George's All-Stars.

The remaining matches at White Hill see Lobster Pot going up against Island Rangers and, in the only all-Second Division match, Port Royal clash with Social Club.
