Eaton lifts Invitation title

Invitation matchplay golf tournament yesterday when he scored a convincing victory over fellow American Jim Davis.

Eaton, from New Hampshire, won the 18-hole final four and three.

The senior title went to regular visitor Dick Stimets from Maryland who defeated Paul Evans, also from Maryland, five and four.

A field of close to 100 from North America, Europe as well as Bermuda took part in the week-long event.

The Great Bermuda Walking Marathon being put on by American firm, Strategic Resources Allocation Group in conjunction with the Bermuda Department of Tourism, begins on Front Street at 7.00 a.m. with somewhere in the region of 500 competitors expected to take part.

Highly represented will be the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with some 300 participants.

There will actually be two races, with a 13.1 mile half marathon being incorporated into the full 26.2 mile event.

Walkers will cover the same course used during January's International Race Week, with the top finishers expected to complete the distance in approximately five hours.

Meanwhile, today features a five kilometre fun run open to runners and walkers, starting at 7.00 a.m., as well as an expo at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess from 3-6 p.m.
