Bermuda's junior riders have qualified for the North American Young Riders Championships to be held in Quebec during August.
Peter Hind and Gina Flood both attained the standard set for the three-day event, while Jill Terceira plans on being the first Bermuda representative in show jumping.
Hind in fact has a choice of rides for the event having qualified on his horse Givenchy late last year and just this past weekend on his other mount, Prime Time.
Meanwhile Flood, who recently won the Young Riders Division at Eglington, will compete on Swizzle Inn and Terceira has the use of a leased horse, Alchemist.
The championships will take place in Bromont, the site of the 1976 Olympic Games.
Bromont was the venue for Hind, Flood and Carol Ann Blackman to test their riding ability over the weekend against stiff foreign opposition. Flood placed sixth in the Open Intermediate Division, one point ahead of Blackman, whose horse Watersmeet appears to have recovered from the problem that forced her withdrawal from an Olympic qualifier recently. Hind rode Prime Time to the 12th spot overall in the CCI Division.
Bermuda national coaching programme director, David Ballard has played a vital part in enabling local youngsters to obtain rides and successfully participate abroad. In addition to helping Terceira, Ballard also arranged horses for Suzette Madeiros and Heidi Mello, who compete regularly in Canada.
The Bermuda Equestrian Federation's annual prize presentation will be held on Sunday at Grotto Bay Hotel starting at 11.30 a.m.
