for alleged fisheries offences for a second time yesterday.

Andrew Farias -- son of Danny Farias, who quit as chairman of the Government board at the start of the year -- was arrested as he allegedly sold fish on Trimingham Hill, Paget, soon after 12.30 p.m. yesterday.

Also arrested were Michael Barnes and Edward Soares. All three men were taken to Hamilton Police Station for questioning and released on Police bail last night pending further inquiries.

A spokesman for Marine Police confirmed last night that three men were arrested in connection with fisheries offences, but he would not specify what the offences were.

And he said the investigation was being headed by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, which had asked Marine Police for assistance.

He said: "They have been released on bail, to return to the station in about mid-June. I don't want to specify any offences. It has to be looked at by the Attorney General's chambers.'' Both Mr. Farias and Mr. Barnes were arrested at the end of March during an undercover Police probe into the use of illegal fishpots.

If the men are convicted of the fishpot charges, they could face heavy fines and have their fishermen's licences revoked.

The law also allows for the confiscation of boats and/or gear in some cases.
