Fire Service burn up standings: SOCCER: Commercial League
Commercial League groups A and B on Saturday with their fourth straight victories.
Fire Service picked up another win, beating North Village Rams 2-1 on goals from Stephen Caines and Mark Wheddon. Kenny Thompson replied for Rams.
The four-way tie for second place in the top division was broken as Island Rangers went down to Lobster Pot while champions BAA Wanderers and Robin Hood could only manage a 0-0 draw.
Lobster Pot took over sole possession of second spot, three points back, with their 3-2 win over Ireland Rangers. No referee showed for the match but the teams agreed beforehand to allow it to be an official match.
Bill Spencer and Andy McCullough (2) tallied for Lobster Pot while Troy Berkeley and Keith Bremar replied for Rangers.
Bottom teams Mariners and St. George's All-Stars both picked up their first wins. Mariners handed Spinning Wheel their third straight loss, 6-0 as Craig Dixon, Joe Cunha and Gary Adams each netted twice.
All-Stars moved ahead of MR Onions in the standings with their 2-1 victory.
Both All-Stars goals came from Sinclair Smith, including a 69th minute penalty, while substitute Mark Bridges pulled one back for Onions in the last minute.
In Group B, Prison Officers extended their winning streak to four matches with a 2-0 win over Devonshire Lions. B.Brangman and Conrad Lister scored for the Officers. Second-placed Somerset Extros had another big win, hammering Devonshire All-Stars 7-3.
In other results, Bermuda Pest Control beat eight-man Valley 6-1, with Earl Pringle scoring a consolation goal for Valley, while Belco beat Wolves 4-2.
Mitchell Raynor, Shawn Spencer, Casey Butterfield and Oscar Samuels scored for Belco and Gregory Talbot and Casey Burgess replied for Wolves.
Last-placed Exiles went down 4-1 to Forties. Antoine Cannonier scored for Exiles and he also missed a penalty.
Commercial League teams are featured in a pair of FA Cup elimination round double-headers, scheduled for tonight at BAA Field and Devonshire Rec.
Lobster Pot meet Island Rangers for the second time in four days in the 7.00 p.m. fixture at Devonshire Rec. with Forties taking on St. George's All-Stars at 9.00. At BAA Field, Robin Hood clash with Fire Service at 7.00 and Exiles play BAA in the nightcap.
The four winners advance to the first round on Sunday, when six more matches are scheduled.
Frienship Shield and Trophy matches are scheduled for Thursday night, with Somerset Eagles playing Hamilton Parish and Somerset Trojans meeting Devonshire Cougars. The games are tentatively scheduled for PHC Stadium but ongoing light problems there may result in a change of venue.
