Fisher strikes gold again
World Veterans Athletics Championships in Buffalo, New York yesterday.
Fisher outsmarted German Annette Koop with just 100 metres to go to capture gold in the 1,500 metres with a time of four minutes, 32.43 seconds.
It was Fisher's sixth event in seven days under difficult conditions of searing heat and strong winds.
Besides her 1,500 metres title she also won gold in the 800 metres and a silver in the 400 metres hurdles.
Fisher, however, will undoubtedly savour yesterday's gold since so many champions from other events were competing against her. Janet Takahaski of Canada set a blistering pace early in the race with Koop stealing the lead at the 350 metres mark.
In second place during most of the race, Fisher always stayed within striking range of Koop, who finished just one second behind the Bermudian.
Fisher, meanwhile, was undecided about entering today's 2,000 steeplechase, an event she has never competed in before.
