Five-goal Eagles flying high
Unpredictable Somerset Eagles kept the heat on leaders Southampton Rangers as they blasted a hapless Port Royal at White Hill yesterday.
Two goals from Terrence (Sluggo) Christopher and one each from Eddie Callendar and Clark Riley, together with a Craig Dickson own goal, completed the rout for Eagles, whose performances have been up and down this season.
The home side led 1-0 at the half, courtesy of a Callendar strike.
Christopher followed with a double strike in the second half, while Riley boosted the advantage to four before Royal's Winston Thomas pulled one back.
The four goal margin was restored when Dickson knocked one into his own net.
Hamilton Parish 3 Prospect 1 Despite missing a number of goals early in the second half with the score tied 1-1, Hamilton Parish managed to recover and record their first victory of the season at Wellington Oval.
Parish, who started the day at the bottom of the table, took a 1-0 lead through Ernest Lathan before the break but made things tough for themselves afterwards because of missed chances.
Prospect drew level with a goal from Terry Thomas early in the half, but hard work by Parish saw them dominate the later stages of the game.
Just when it looked as though additional goals would escape them, Parish found the mark through Lathan again and then Devrae Hollis who scored on a breakaway juts before the final whistle.
Paget 0 Social Club 3 Social Club leapt three places up the standings from seventh to fourth following this workmanlike effort against a game but outclassed Paget at Southampton Oval.
The home side were always up against the odds after falling behind to a Dean Young strike in the opening minutes.
After avoiding any further damage in the first half, Paget came apart after the break, allowing Rembert Hill to net twice, the second via the penalty spot after team-mate Randy Spence was brought down.
The Bluebirds took advantage of defeats by Wolves and Port Royal and now lead four teams bracketed on six points -- Wolves, Port Royal, Prospect and Social Club -- by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Wolves 0 Southampton Rangers 2 Southampton Rangers' perfect league run continued as Wolves became the latest to be swept aside by Gary Darrell's youthful bunch.
Goals in each half by Jason (Ghost) Raynor and Alfred (Buster) Wolffe settled the result in Rangers' favour, giving them six victories in as many matches.
They lead by just one point over Somerset Eagles, although the latter have played one game more.
