For the second consecutive Sunday a dry and dusty track produced some fast times at Vesey Street as several ponies moved up to a faster time bar.

Sand Trap, Show Time, Flame On, Miss LL Dane, Gusto's Cracker Jack, Grand Marshall, Pleasant Surprise, Vieda's Laser Beam and Shamrock Temujen all progressed to a faster division with the last four moving to the Free for All -- 1:0/1 and faster.

There are now nine ponies racing in the class for the fastest ponies on the Island.

Diamondway, with Tony Adcock, in the sulky, again set a new track record for trotters when he won his second heat in 1:07/3.

With that time he has one leg out and is also headed to the Free for All. With another similar performance he would skip the Junior Free for All and go right to the top level.

Gusto's Cracker Jack, driven by Bobby DeGraffe, won the Animal and Garden House feature race of the day, winning his heat in 1:08/2.

Kenny Mills drove three winners, including Show Time, Grand Willy and Melody Time who won in 1:06/4, the fastest time ever by a mare in Bermuda. David Lopes shared driving honours when he won twice with Motown Scott and once with Championne County.

There will be no racing this Sunday because of a two-day horse show at Vesey Street over the weekend.

POOL POO There were few surprises during latest action in the Bermuda International Pool League with the number one and two ranked outfits each winning handily.

First placed Swinging Doors showed why they remain the top guns, disposing of War Vets Snipers 200-166 to remain unbeaten after 18 matches.

Vasco, currently second with a 17-1 record, got past Robin Hood 204-170, keeping pace with the leaders.

In individual action only Shaun Smith could manage a perfect 50, while Rob Williams played well to score both a 10-0 and eight-ball run-out.

The race for the individual championship appears decided, with Brian Walker holding a 41 point lead on 723, compared to 682 for second placed Trevor Mouchette and 681 for Gary Bascome.

Saturday saw the Bermuda Open Doubles tournament at Vasco Da Gama club.

Several pre-tournament favourites fell early, including the top tandem of Brian Walker and Mike Zimmerman.

The final saw Manuel Furtado and Paul Mathias, who had the hardest route, take on Manual Valadao and Mark O'Connor, with the former winning 4-0.

TENNIS TEN The Father/Son, Mother/Daughter tournament and the Super Senior tournament, both USTA-sanctioned events, take place at Coral Beach and Tennis Club this month.

The family tournament begins this Thursday, continuing until Sunday, followed by the start of the Super Seniors next Monday.
