Former champions Norm's Storms narrowly edged their way to the quarter-finals of the sixth annual AF Smith Corporate Squash Team Tournament at the weekend.

They overcame Moresby Marauders in the Division One clash. Tim Counsell gave Storms a 2-1 lead in a tight match against Gavin Dent before Moresby's Justin Currie made it 4-2 with a 3-0 victory over Gerelyn Counsell.

At 4-2 down Lynn Furtado had the task of of defeating Moresby's Mark Griffin by a 3-0 margin to keep her team in the competition.

Levelling the game scores with wins of 15-8 and 15-10, Furtado looked set to fulfil her goal. But Griffin switched up a gear and found himself 13-7 in the lead in the deciding game. Furtado refused to be beaten, however, and gleaned extra energy from her supporters in the gallery to claw it back to 13-13.

Griffin clinched the next point in a long and exhausting rally to give him match ball, but Furtado rallied again to level and take the game herself in a sudden death finish.
